Muz We Love: The Swell Season “Sleeping.”
Gorgeous stuff right here. If you’ve seen the indie film, “Once” you’re probably already as obsessed with these two, as we are. This is Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová of The Swell Season. Talk about top notch harmonies. If you’re in to The Civil Wars you’re gonna love these guys.
Sweet Talkin’ With Sweet Talk Radio.
There’s something about husband/wife duos that jut cannot be matched an any way, shape or form. It’s a deep, untouchable kind of connection. Sweet Talk Radio, a duo bound by music anddd matrimony have that unbeatable chemistry. Their sound is a cross between alternative, folk and Americana, and it is distinctly theirs. If you’ve got an ear for The Civil Wars you’re going to love love love these guys. Their debut album, “My Hallelujah,” is as dynamic as it is addicting. They span the emotional spectrum, varying from vulnerable, to passionate, to angry, and beyond. Anddd that’s just vocally. Lyrically, they’re unconventional and creative; their use of imagery is as effortless as it is effective. Take a listen to “Rain Cloud,” you’ll totally see what we mean. You would think that they’ve had multiple degrees in English literature the way their songs flow. It’s deep and connective, and we cannot get enough! Needless to say these two have got a great thing going, and we’re totally in love with it!

Podunk Sessions: Dave Pahanish And Friends.
Podunk Sessions. Saweeet. Every monday night, a few of Music City’s most passionate music makers come together and put on a knock out performance, purely because that’s what they love to do. Their motto being, “This isn’t the music business, it’s THE music.” Rock and Roll, right? The whole thing is really inspiring because most or all of the players in the group have felt the heat of the industry, whether they were signed and dropped, or signed and shelved or just completely disregarded by major labels; they refuse to let it deter their love of the art.
The whole project is just really sick. They have a website that much better explains. (Podunk Sesh’s Official Site)
That being said, this was our first Podunk experience so we’re not totally sure how it runs, exactly. We think that the group as whole has a solid time slot at 3rd and Lindsley and depending on their schedules one or more of the artists plays each week. Last night, we had the pleasure of witnessing singer/songwriter Dave Pahanish and friends. Probably best known for his writing success, Toby Keith, Jimmy Wayne, and Keith Urban‘s lastest “Without You,” the guy is just plain talented. Most of the performance was him, an electric and an acoustic, and some background vocalists. So good! Honestly though, he could’ve stood up there unplugged and it would have been just as killer.
Dave’s wife Kristin also took to the stage off and on. The girl, of who’s vocal stylings could be compared to the likes of Adele was equally skilled. It was especially crazy when the two came together in song. The contrast in their voices is really gorgeous; they could easily pull off a duo and have an effect similar to that of The Civil Wars. For real.
These vids aren’t awesome quality, and therefore don’t do justice, but we suggest you look these guys up. Also, Dave and his band Dave Pahanish and Rust Belt just released an album, and for $10 it’s all yours. They play around town a whole lot so make sure to check them out. Awesome show!
(we didn’t know the name of the songs and/or everyone on stage so let us know if we need to fix or give credit via anything in the vids.)

It turns out The Civil Wars aren’t just awesome artists, they’re really awesome people! John Paul White and Joy Williams of TCW teamed up with their “Barton Hollow” producer Charlie Peacock to auction off an autographed Squier electric guitar on ebay. All proceeds, of course, go to help rebuild Alabama. Such a great cause. The bid is currently at $455.00, which is just slightly outside of our college budget, or else we’d SO be on that. Butt, if you were lookin’ to spend some money on some new strings andddd help out a good cause, you outta go place your bids!

New Music: Afterlife Parade
Calling all Civil Wars fans! If you’re looking for something fresh and meaningful and brutally honest, we suggest Afterlife Parade; a solo project featuring artist and musician Quinn Erwin. Though new to Nashville , Mr Erwin has been writing and performing for nearly 12 years. Upon his recent relocation Music City, however, Erin experienced a cycle of losses both personally and inter personally that would single handedly derail his way of thinking. Being an artist, he set out to channel that mindset into a musical journey. His most recent work, Death, is pure example. Though meloncholy in name, the album is one of two 6 song EP’s that identify with death and dying as less of a tragedy and more means of comfort. He attempts to focus on the celebration of life, and the inspiration that death is a homecoming rather than a reason to grief. Deep, right? Produced by The Fray‘s own Jeremy McCoy, the end half of the duo “Rebirth” hits shelves January 31st, 2011! We can’t wait! We love what this guy’s doing! it’s extremely adventurous, even for the likes of Nashville and we wish him all the best!
Check more on Afterlife Parade HERE. You can pick up his EP Death on Itunes as well.
