So this is kind of cool.
When we were like 12, and going through yet another Country music stage, we snatched this album up out of the Walmart bargain bin; it’s an eleven track disk by a couple of then, up and comers and now, well, nobody’s called “The Thompson Brothers Band”  entitled “Blame it on the Dog.”

The CD was really not bad and actually pretty ahead of it’s time, it had some solid poppy up beats, some decent slow ones, anddd one clear stand out track; the former single, “Back on the Farm Again.”

WE LOVED THAT SONG!

So here’s where it get’s cool.  We were busy googling songwriters off of Miranda Lambert‘s latest album, Four the Record, when we stumbled upon a guy named Don Henry.  Don’s got all kinds of cuts, including but not limited to Miranda’s “All Kind of Kinds” andddd……  “Back on the Farm Again!”

So it’s really not all the cool or uncommon… at all… but we saw this video and had some major throwback and we just couldn’t not share about it.
So check this out!

P.S. The video is lame, we know.

P.P.S. These guys are no longer together.  They had  a 4 year stint with RCA that ended in 2000, word on the street though is that they’ve got some sort of folk/rock thing called “The Mass Acoustics” going on.

P.P.P.S This is a solid song, someone should consider cutting it; Blake Shelton, Easton Corbin, Rascal Flatts, Keith Urban?

We always like to stay on top of the new music here in town, so naturally we either buy or listen to every album that we can get our hands on.  Here’s a list of what we believed to be the stand out tracks on some of the more recent albums; some are current singles, some never will be, but here’s  a little of what we liked best!

Tim Mcgraw – “The One That Got Away” (Emotional Traffic)

Tim’s new album is realllllly great! He’s comin back!
Try not to get addicted to this song.  We dare you.

David Nail – “Half Mile Hill” (Sound of a Million Dreams)

This probably won’t be a single.  Nope.  But gahh it’s so beautifully written, and it’s so bittersweet.  Love that melody!

“I have my doubts, and I have them still, up on half mile hill.

Lady Antebellum – The Heart of the World (Own the Night)

We think Lady A is super talented, and really great performers, but this album just didn’t do it for us.  Sorry, guys!    However, we listened to the whole thing, and at the close of the disk, we stumbled upon this little tune and had to share it.

George Straight – “Poison” (Here For a Good Time)
Yes. Please.  Love this, George!

Luke Byan – “Drunk On You” (Tailgates and Tanlines)

Yayy, it’s a single!!  We were so surprised when we saw this sitting a top Country Aircheck’s weekly adds.  A surprising follow up to, “I Don’t Want This Night To End” because they’re so similar, but still, it’s the best song on the album, and we’re happy to hear it on the air.
You can bet it’s going to soar to number one.
We’ll be hearing this one all summer, folks.

Craig Campbell “Makes You Wanna Sang” (Craig Campbell)

We got this album a few months back, but we just recently put it into the CD drive in our car. And we really dig it!  Craig’s super classic country, Joe Nichols and George Strait fans, look out.  Anyway, we kinda of fought over this one, and Jamie Won.  You’ll see why if you just click play!

Miranda Lambert  – “Same Old You” (Four The Record)

This really wasn’t fair, there’s like 10 amazing tracks on Miranda’s new album.  To keep it short, we highlighted this one because we LOVE Brandi Carlile, and she wrote it.  And she’s back ups.  And, this is just a great song.  It’s never going to be released but, that we know, but we love the fact that Miranda even thought about putting this song on her record.

Toby Keith – “I Won’t Let You Down” (Clancy’s Tavern)

This is what our mom would refer to as “Classic Toby.”

Craig Morgan – “This Ole Boy” (This Ole Boy)

This Peach Pickers really knocked it out of the park with this one.  This song is so fun and upbeat and catchy, you can’t help but rock out to it.  It took it a while to get some steam on the charts but it’s getting there!  Joe Nichols also cut it on his latest album, but looks like Craig got to it first.  We’re betting there was some drama there…

Trace Adkins – “Always Gonna Be That Way” (Proud To Be Here)

Trace got us with this one.  Just listen to the opening line
“Summer turns this town to dust, if it don’t rain the farmers cuss, but they break the ground and turn the hay, and it ‘s always gonna be that way.”

Montgomery Gentry “Empty” (Rebels on the Run)

This would be an awesome follow up to MG’s latest single, “Where I Come From.”  It’s 100 percent Troy and Eddie, and we are totally feelin’ it!

DID WE MISS ANY GOOD ONES?! Let us know,

Ohhhh the things you Tumble upon.  I (Emily) was busy looking up some Miranda/Chris Brown photos for my own personal tumblr just minutes ago, when I came across the lyrics to a song of Ran’s that I had never before heard, entitled: “Wichita Falls.”
One quick google brought me to Youtube, where I crashed upon this gold mine of early music.
So this stuff is believed to be from her self-titled 2001 album, before she ever signed with Sony, and even before her days on Nashville Star.
Talk about change.  It’s very Texas, and it’s pretty low quality but none the less, you’ll find the same Lambert spirit that we know and love, in each song.
Here ya go!

Miranda Lambert‘s new album Four The Record is hands down one of the best albums of the year.    We’re obsessed.   This song, “Look At Miss Ohio” is one of our favorite tracks on the record.  At first we didn’t really think it fit the tone of the album, but somewhere between our 1st and 1000th listen we’ve grown to love this tune.  So few yet words so much is said.  Here’s the original by the songwriters themselves, Gillian Welch & David Rawlings.  Gorge.

Last Tuesday night we were lucky enough to sit down with the amazing amazing Adam Hood just before his album release party here in Nashville.   We talked old friends, new music, and the road to Tennessee; and let us assure you, this guy has got what it takes.  His skills as an artist and songwriter are deeply rooted in his southern raising, providing for a sound that is unique, fresh and completely one of a kind.  Adam’s as humble as he is talented. and among his biggest fans is country superstar Miranda Lambert, who on a chance encounter, ended up at one of his shows and couldn’t get enough of him.  Since that day Adam’s been all over the music scene, from a string of dates on Willie Nelson’s Country Music Throwdown Tour, to an exclusive record deal with one of Nashville’s most respected young labels.  Now with the debut of his first major studio album release, “The Shape of Things,”  It’s safe to say things are definitely “shaping” up for this Alabama boy.

Twin Love: For those who’ve never heard your music, tell us a little about your sound.

Adam: I always say, that it’s something you would expect from Alabama. There’s a lot of country influence in it, a lot of blues in it, that’s kind of what I was raised on.  My mother was kind of a Lionel Richie fan and my dad rode bareback when I was a baby and so he’s kind of Johnny Paycheck, but you know, just typical southern music.

Twin Love: What did you listen to growing up?

Adam: I was raised with some latin and whatever was on the radio between 78 and 83 and i guess my folks but a guitar when i was around ten and I was into everyhing, that was kind of the beginning of the hair metal, Van Halen and stuff like that, I was a huge Prince fan.
Twin Love: Tell us how you got in touch with Miranda Lambert and a little about the Country Throwdown Tour:
Adam: I met Miranda when I was playing a Tuesday night show at a place called Tavern on the Green, and the night that I was playing, her mom and her Kacey Mugraves‘ car broke down and they decided they were just going to stay the night in New Braunfels and get a room and go get a beer, and I was playing.  So I played my songs and she came up to me after the set and said, “I like your music.”  I said, “thanks” and gave her a CD.  Two weeks later her mom called and said they wanted me to play a birthday party, and so I drove to Chicago and played.  Then I started opening for them and she introduced me to Frank and the guys I write for now. So a little divine intervention is the way I look at it.

Twin Love: Tell us a little about your new album:

Adam: The new album is called “The Shape of Things” The difference is, it’s kind of, a little bit more introspective of a record, you know, I kind of went back and king of reevaluated my life, I’m not on the road as much as I used to be.  We used to do like 300 shows, which was good for me because at the same time I was able to figure out what I wanted to do and what I didn’t want to do.  I wrote from a ton of songs and picked from a pile, so from a songwriter’s perspective it did a lot of I was really able to dig into how I feel about things and my attitude about things.
I also played a lot of guitar on the record and I co wrote a lot on the record.  It was like a 3 year process.  It’s been  2007 since I last put a record out.  But this one wasn’t a process of writing 10 songs and recording them, we got to pick and choose from a lot of stuff.  And I think the quality of the record is a whole lot better.

Twin Love: Who were some of your co-writes?

Adam: I wrote a lot with Pat McClaughlin, and Jason Sands.  I wrote Shape of
Things Myself.

Twin Love: What made you choose that for the title track?

Adam: I think it probably somes up everything as far as how things are with me and being my age.

Twin Love: That’s awesome we love the record, so what’s next for Adam Hood?

Adam: Just touring to promote the record.  That’s really it.

Adam’s new album has gotten RAVE reviews.  It’s as stunning as he is.  Do yourself a favor and check it out HERE!

Here’s Miranda debuting a hot new track off of the up and coming “Four The Record.”  This is “Mama’s Broken Heart” written by newly signed Lost Highway Records recording artist Kacey Musgraves.

And check out Kacey’s version, while you’re at it!

P.S. Whattt do these two artists have in common?! They were both contestants on Nashville Star!

Who’s it gonna be?!  Nom’s were posted this morning!  The 45th Annual CMA awards will be presented  Wednesday, November 9 at 8/7c on ABC, hosted by Brad and Carrie, once more.
